Getting a Life to Live

Playing loony Lindsay can even take a toll on a soap vet like Catherine Hickland. "If you're going to do your job and not just walk through it, you soak it in because you are there 12 hours a day," she says. "For a while, I was wearing it home. It was not fun for me or my husband [Michael E. Knight, Tad, ALL MY CHILDREN]." In the last few months, however, the actress has been able to strike a balance, and credits the show's executive producer, Gary Tomlin. "He makes sure we're done by 7:00 at night," she says, "and we have seven weeks off a year." Now that Hickland's working a little less, she can enjoy Lindsay a whole lot more. "I am a very joyful, happy person," she concludes. "I wake up and say, 'Yippee! Everything works, I've got another day of life!' Now I can bring the fun to Lindsay, but I don't live with her."
