OLTL – Off-Contract Cat: “You Only Want To Be Where You’re Valued!”
STATUS: ONE LIFE TO LIVE will not be renewing Catherine Hickland’s (Lindsay) contract when it runs out. But she’s cool with that.
The In Depth Story: When Hickland created the character of Sam Rappaport’s ex-wife, Lindsay, in May 1998, it was supposed to be a one-day gig. So the very fact that OLTL proceeded to put her on contract – and then kept her around for seven years – gives the actress a proper perspective on the situation. “You know what? I’m not [sad],” she tells us. “I’m happy. I mean, everything happens the way it’s supposed to. There’s no reality, just [the] perspective [you have on it].
“Change,” she maintains, “is only bad if you look at it that way. And I’m a person that believes change is always for the better. It really, really is.”
Having seen her screen time diminish since the days of the heated Nora/Lindsay rivalry, Hickland is approaching an officially recurring status with arms wide open. “The fact of the matter is, to be recurring is wonderful,” the soap vet explains. “You get paid for working while you’re waiting for the show that you’re supposed to be on to call. You only want to be where you’re valued and never somewhere where you’re not.”
