Tangled Web: Has the Internet Helped – Or Hurt – Soap Operas?

OLTL: She’s sick and tired of being “fired”!

“I haven’t been on an Internet message board in a couple of years,” ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Catherine Hickland (Lindsay) tells us, “only because when it first started, it was just so hurtful. Especially when you play a bad character, you’re going to read things about yourself that hurt.” Or, you’ll read – over and over, seldom with validity – that you’ve lost your job! “It’s the worst in that respect,” says Hickland, the frequent target of “firing” rumors. “I have to read about it every single week. Ty [Treadway, ex-Colin/Troy) got ‘fired,’ what, two or three times before he actually left the show!” How do actors deal with such aspersions cast on their careers? “You just have to be thick-skinned and do your best not to take anything personally,” says Hickland.
