In terms of beauty, the find of the year for me was right in my own backyard--the neighborhood drugstore. And the find is Blistex Lip Tone. Not only does it heal my dry lips, it also gives met hat perfect, natural lip color I was born with. The best part, of course, is the price. At $1.99, ya can't beat it with a stick! A couple of the schmancy new cosmetics companies have come out with their own versions of it, but at $12 a pop, forget it; they're no better. Stick with a classic, and buy the Blistex. Just make sure it's the tinted one that comes in stick form.
I'm always thrilled when I find good cosmetics in the drugstore because it means they're going to cost a lot less. I always sing the praises of drugstore lipsticks because there are many fine ones out there. But as far as powders, eye-shadows and blushes go, it's a tough find. Especially with blushes and eye-shadows. I have yet to find one to sing about, so I opt to go for quality and spend more. That leads me to my favorite blushes, made by Christian Dior and Versace. These two famous brands are at most find department stores, with plenty of testers. However, if you're near a Sephora store, please make a stop because you can play all day with the makeup if you want to, and no one will ever try to hard-sell you (they aren't allowed to). Plus, their return policy is the best, in case you do make a mistake.
I did, however, find a very nice drugstore powder made by Cornsilk. It's a 3 in 1 Powder that has some great coverage and is so silky smooth! There were no testers out, and that's a drag, because let's face it, there aren't ever any makeup experts to help you in a drugstore. Take your shot, and save the receipt.
Now that winter is here (and boy, is it here in New York City!), I am looking for that little color punch, and I found it in a fabulous new self-tanner. It's called Guerlain Terracotta Autobronzant Teinte Visage Et Corps. It comes in #1 for pale faces and #2 for a little darker skin tone. This gel-based self-tanner gives you immediate color, which is nice because you can actually see where you're applying it. I prefer to apply it with a sponge because it gives a more even application. Make sure to only apply a little at a time (as you should with all cosmetics).
I still like to do this at bedtime because it's nice to wake up with a golden face. But really, you can do it anytime. Just don't wipe your face or put powder on over it or go making out (whoo hooo!) or you'll run the risk of streaking.
That's it beautiful ones. Happy New Year!
