I know I’m always talking about my 12 hairs and how I obsess about making them the best 12 hairs on the planet, but I really do think that we can take better care of the only head of hair we’ll get in this lifetime. As I’ve said before, my poor 12 get so tortured between the constant coloring and blow-drying that I’ve tried everything to make it up to them.

About eight months ago while I was torturing my hair in a salon, I read an article in a fashion magazine about a hair supplement from Finland called Viviscal. It comes in a pill form and is made from fish oils. The models in the article swore that it made their hair more healthy and helped it grow faster, which is important because they often have to grow out haircuts that they get for fashion shows but don’t like for their real lives.

Shortly after reading about this, I, too, got a haircut that I felt was too short ("I said just a trim!!!"), so I ran out and hunted down some Viviscal. This stuff is not cheap. Since I started taking it, I’ve paid anywhere from $90 to $120 for a month’s supply, but I’ve taken it faithfully, because it works. I have noticed a marked difference in my hair growth, as well as my skin and nails. I also haven’t had a cold since I started taking it, which may be a coincidence, but there could be something in that fish oil!

Viviscal is expensive and obviously should not be taken by anybody with any kind of allergy to fish (duh!), so check with your physician. It’s also hard to find. But if you want to try it, call 1-888-868-5477, or log on to www.spacadet.com. Spacadet sells a month’s supply for $78, which is great compared to the few high-end drugstores that sell it by the truckload here in Manhattan.

PQ’s other obsession is lipstick, of course, but I have to admit that I am really sick of spending $16 for upscale lipsticks. I buy ‘em (it’s my job), but it annoys me! Last month, I found a really great jumbo lipliner named Lipstique at a local drugstore (Duane Reade). It’s made by a company called Lord and Berry and I love it. You use it on the entire lip like a crayon. My favorite color is Frosty, which complements many skin types, but at $2.49 per stick, you can afford to try a few to find that perfect shade. This stuff has staying power! I kissed (my favorite sport), I ate (my second-favorite sport) and it was still on my lips.

I also adore these other lipsticks made by Jordana which were only 99 cents each – check them out, too. Slap a little gloss over those and you’re set to go!

See ya next month!
