Taking Stock of Soaps' Most Obsessed Characters

The Fixated Female: Lindsay Rappaport
Desperately Seeking: Nora Buchanan

Cause of Compulsion: Sam loved Nora. Nora didn’t love Sam. Sam married Lindsay, but his torch for Nora never fizzled. Learning that your entire marriage was a little more than a rebound relationship that went on too long is never easy—and when she found out, Lindsay was justifiably infuriated. Playing second fiddle was definitely not the section of the orchestra for this blonde bombshell. Lindsay had an affair with one of Sam’s law partners, which led to their divorce, and Sam moved to Llanview to assist in Todd’s legal defense. Lindsay followed, with seemingly one obsessive purpose in mind: to make Nora’s life miserable.

Anything Goes: Since Lindsay blew into town, she’s taken every opportunity to cut Nora down. Late last year, she fudged Bo’s fertility results so Bo and Nora would think they couldn’t have children. That led to Nora sleeping with Sam to get pregnant when she thought Bo had lost his reason to live after his son died. Later, Lindsay got drunk and headed to the Woman of the Year ceremony where Nora was being honored, and spilled all about the conception deception in front of the shocked crowd. More recently, Lindsay made Nora’s estranged hubby her hobby, and after bedding Bo, Lindsay rushed to Nora’s hospital room to announce her conquest.

Status Check: So far, Lindsay’s done a commendable job busting up Nora and Bo, but this is one snake who’s about to eat her own tail. When Bo discovers Lindsay tampered with his fertility tests, she may find herself without a friend in sight.

Obsession Confession: Catherine Hickland (Lindsay)- “When I was about 5 or 6, I was obsessed with Eddie Munster [The Munsters]. I don’t know if it was the widow’s peak or the pointed ears; I just thought he was the cat’s pajamas. I wrote him a fan letter, which was the only fan letter I ever wrote. I don’t think he ever answered me, and the obsession eventually went away after about a year. I just outgrew him. So when I’m playing Lindsay obsessed with Nora, I have to harken back to the days of Eddie Munster. Most obsessions of a well person dissipate over time. It’s the people who aren’t normal who can’t get over their obsession.
