Enemies, A Love Story

They're developing a legendary on-camera rivalry, but One Life to Live's Catherine Hickland (Lindsay) and Hillary B. Smith (Nora) couldn't be better friends when the cameras are off. "Catherine and I have chemistry," grins Smith. "We were written up as daytime's hottest new couple!"

As Hickland explains, they spend as much free time together as their schedules will allow. "Hillary makes me laugh a lot," says the actress, "and I think I do the same for her. We often eat breakfast together after rehearsal. And people are always weirded out by seeing us sitting there, eating a friendly [meal]!"

It's a setup that lends insight to all rivalries--that sometimes it's possible to share the canvas. "When the Rappaports were first brought on to ONE LIFE, and virtually overnight the canvas was revolving around them--that could have been a potentially unpleasant situation," notes TV Guide's Michael Logan. "But Hillary and Catherine have turned that into a very positive situation--even as rivals on the show--and they've both ended up with huge storylines as a result."
