Product Queen
Well, Princesses, winter is here. I know because my skin is drier than a snake during molting season.
I've been buying and trying every skin slougher and skin softener known to the Western world, and out of the hundreds of dollars I've spent, I have found three magnificent products to write about. (The rest I gave to my husband.) They are hard to find because they are made by specialty companies, but I have included the 800 numbers and Web sites where you can get them. If you don't own a computer, maybe a Web-savvy friend can order them for you.
Bliss makes a body product called Lemon Peel which is unbelievably effective for saying buh-bye to dead, dry skin (eeewwww!). After rubbing this lemony-scented slougher all over your dry body for three to five minutes, you hop into the shower and rinse it off and voilá! You'll go from snake to seal in no time at all.
The other two products I really like are made by a company called Burt's Bees (I imagine Burt to be some crazy old man with a bazillion bees in his backyard making potions all day. But more likely, he's a Fortune 500 millionaire.) In any case, Burt's Bees Vitamin E Body and Bath Oil comes in a bottle and you just pour some of that in your nice, hot bath and soak away. When you get out, pat yourself dry -- don't rub. You want to keep as much of this fabulous stuff on your skin as possible.
Burt also makes a bar of soap called Burt's Bees Garden Carrot Complexion Soap, which is great for everyday use in the shower to combat dryness. Use all three products in rotation and you will not recognize your skin!
If you want to spend a little less, Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Healing Body Lotion remains one of my favorites. And you can use a good old loofah to remove dry, flaky skin (just be gentle!).
