Little Miss One Note

When the writers decided to have TESS sing on the show, Catherine Hickland readily agreed, with the stipulation that she perform live. "I didn't want to pre-record it because I always think that looks so stupid," says Catherine. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a decision she later regretted. On the day before the taping, Catherine came down with a severe case of strep throat which forced her to cancel several days of work at Les Miserables. "But on soaps," notes Catherine, "you don't not show up for work unless you're really on your deathbed. I begged them not to let me sing because I was in a lot of pain, and they asked if I could just give them four bars." In spite of her agony, the plucky performer when on with the show. "I could have done it a lot better if I'd been well," lamented Catherine.
