Too Close for Comfort

Daytime veteran Catherine Hickland couldn't be happier about her latest return to the soaps in the long--term role of Lindsay Rappaport on OLTL. The actress, whose last foray into daytime television was as Tess Wilder on ABC's Loving/The City has previously played Texas' Dr. Courtney Marshall and Capitol's Julie Clegg/Jenny Diamond. Hickland describes her new OLTL character as "a very spicy addition to the town." The actress is not, however, willing to label Lindsay a troublemaker just yet. "She's feisty," says Hickland playfully. "She's a person with an agenda, which is always interesting to play."

Hickland who is married to fellow ABCer Michael E. Knight (Tad, AMC), describes her role on OLTL as "a dream come true. I'm very familiar with this show. I've watched it, along with a few others for many, many years. Coming here was more than a comfortable transition because I felt like I knew everyone already, she gleefully explains. "In fact, aside from the characters, I know many of the actors just from having been a part of the ABC family for five years." Another perk that comes along with her new OLTL role is the opportunity to work with good friend Kale Browne (Sam), who plays her ex-husband on the show.

I've known Kale for about six years now," says Hickland, adding that she and Knight took the actor in prior to his landing a part on OLTL. "We had no idea that we'd soon be working together when he was staying with us, none whatsoever. It was just one of those great things in life that happens, and you can't believe your good fortune, but you take it gladly!"

Hickland couldn't be more excited about bringing Sam's ex-wife to Llanview full time because it means getting to work with Browne day in and day out. "Don't tell him I said this," she whispers, "but it's like putting on a nice comfortable pair of shoes."

And what can we expect from Lindsay in the weeks ahead, now that she's calling Llanview home? "You're going to have to wait and see what she's up to because it's really day to day," says the tight-lipped actress.
