Close to the Real Thing
One of Tess' contributions to the childbirth scenes was continually mentioning that she was delivering a baby wearing a dress from Henri Bendel's. Was this a deliberate plug for the trendy Manhattan store? "It wasn't a Bendel's dress at all," actress Catherine Hickland declares. "It was actually a designer named Nicole from Los Angeles who created that dress for me." Bendel's, she says, was written into the script because of its fine-store reputation. "That gown looks like it costs $2,500 to $3,000, but it actually was around $850," Catherine adds. "Nicole does most of my gowns personally and for The City. She's really incredible."
