Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Annual Flea Market and Auction

Michael E. Knight (Tad, AMC) said it [the event as an important cause] is for him and wife Catherine Hickland (Tess, Loving), too. "I'm honored to be a part of this. And aside from that, it's the pet project of my very, very dear friend Thom Christopher (Dante, Loving), whom I respect tremendously, not only as an actor but as a human being. We would pretty much do anything he wanted us to. Besides, what else would I be doing on my Saturday…sitting at home? These are great people here, and there's a lot of excitement."

Michael may have gotten a bit more excitement than he'd bargained for. When I saw him later, he was reeling from having spent $1,900 on a black-and-white original costume sketch from Beauty and the Beast for Catherine. On the other hand, Robin Strasser seemed ecstatic to have won a $1,500 bid to go backstage at Beauty and the Beast and have tea at the Plaza with "Mrs. Potts" and "Chip." Robin, when informed by auctioneer Lorna Kelly that the bidding only went up to $1,400, insisted: 'Fifteen hundred! Don't argue with me!" Michael, Catherine and Robin relieved Kelly to auction off a package that included a walk-on on OLTL, a guided tour of AMC conducted by Michael, and one of Loving conducted by Catherine--it brought $3,250!
