A Closer Look: Lindsay
Catherine Hickland’s character has only been back in Llanview for a week and already the fun’s begun. Can you say good fight?!
WEEKLY: This week we learn that Lindsay’s been faking her breakdown and RJ knows. Does Lindsay feel beholden to RJ?
HICKLAND: Not beholden. They have watched each other’s back for years, and they are very good friends. She trusts him. There is not a romance between them, but there is an alliance there.
WEEKLY: Does Lindsay worry about Nora figuring this out?
HICKLAND: This is always hanging over her head. She knows Nora wants to see her go down. She wants to throw the book at her – even the death penalty. But Lindsay is motivated by fear through her insecurity. This has always been her pathology, so you can imagine how this affects her. It’s good stuff; hopefully vintage Lindsay and Nora. Hillary (B. Smith, Nora) and I have our teeth bared and are ready to bite!
WEEKLY: How does the food fight at The Palace start?
HICKLAND: The food fight starts innocently, when Nora and Clint invite Bo and Lindsay to sit with them at the restaurant, and then Nora goes after Lindsay a bit and riles Bo up. Bo says something to Nora, which causes a reaction, and then all four of them are off to the races. It’s awesome!
WEEKLY: What does Lindsay think of the Clint/Nora pairing?
HICKLAND: She doesn’t really care. In her mind it makes perfect sense. Nora is going after yet another one of the men from Lindsay’s past. Never mind that Clint and Lindsay were only married for five minutes!
WEEKLY: Is Lindsay considered cured?
HICKLAND: Oh, Lindsay will always be in therapy. She was insane at the time of the murder, but with six months of treatment at St. Ann’s she is ready to go back into society – but only under legal guardianship. I think Lindsay has problems, but mostly she just needs the love of a good man, and to trust that. She’s always getting in her own way. We all know someone like Lindsay. Hmmm…why is it men always go for the nutty ones?
WEEKLY: Where is Lindsay living?
HICKLAND: Lindsay will live with Bo. He is her guardian. Oh, boy! They get along great. There are feelings there but neither of them wants to acknowledge them, so it gets awkward sometimes.
WEEKLY: Is RJ upset or jealous he didn’t get guardianship?
HICKLAND: No, not jealous. Maybe upset. He doesn’t think it’s good for her to be with Bo. He doesn’t feel she will be comfortable there.
WEEKLY: Will we see a Bo/Lindsay/RJ triangle?
HICKLAND: I have no idea where this is headed, but with Clint and Nora in the picture, there are going to be some good times with that.
WEEKLY: How would you describe Lindsay’s relationship with Matthew?
HICKLAND: Matthew truly [gets] Lindsay. He is a pure-hearted kid. He sees the best in everything, and he loved Jen very much. They feel a connection to Jen through each other, and there is a real, true affection there. This, of course, drives Nora crazy – which is a great thing!
