Behind the Seams and Scenes
A peek inside this week's cover shoots in New York and Los Angeles.
Stylist Cannon doesn't watch soaps, so he relied on the costume designers at As the World Turns, Guiding Light, and One Life to Live to pick out "Emmy" gowns for Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara), Kim Zimmer (Reva) and Catherine Hickland (Lindsay). "They explained what they like to wear," relates Cannon. "What shoulder works, what neckline, what color they like…Then I tried to color-coordinate so that it all came together."
Cannon brought more than 30 dresses to the shoot. "You try things on and you never know," he says. "Everyone's body type is different and everything fits differently. You play dress-up for about a half-hour with each one. We had Nicole Miller, Anne Bowen, Reuben Campos, Shawn Ray Fawns…Catherine likes Anne Bowen, although we didn't use that this time." She went with Ani Alvarez Calderon. "Kim's wearing Tahari," Cannon adds, "and Colleen is wearing Michael Akers." The gowns, which were borrowed, are priced anywhere from $250-$3,000. Pinter was so pleased with her gold satin selection, she might even wear it to the Emmys in May.
