Catherine Hickland’s Dos and Don’ts:
Do “consider going lighter with your lip shade (it makes you look younger!) Exotic women can easily wear the darker shades, but believe it or not, they can look great in pale golds and the right pinks, as well.”
Don’t “even think about using purple lipstick or lip gloss. They make most people look dead. No offense, but it’s true.”
Do “go for the more pinky gold when choosing a pink shade. It’s flattering on almost everybody and the bluer pinks tend to turn purple.”
Do “try on the lip color first. Walk around the store in it for a bit and see what color your body chemistry turns it into.”
Do “be careful of lipsticks that dry out your lips. If your lips are chronically chapped, it’s probably the lipstick you’re wearing. Matte colors tend to be the worst offenders.”
Do “use the fleshiest lip liner you can find, but don’t overline. What God didn’t give us, we draw in. Just don’t color outside the lines.”
Do “choose a gloss that doesn’t have so much stickiness. The cheaper glosses are like that. Your hair gets stuck in it. If you kiss the sidewalk and your gloss is still on, then it’s too sticky.”
Do “try earth tones when in doubt about a color. They are beautiful on almost anyone. Beiges, browns, golds and pinks layer beautifully and give the face a soft look.
