Climbs Tree of Success

Catherine Hickland, who is currently playing Julie Clegg McCandless on CBS’ daytime drama Capitol, admits to having been somewhat of a tomboy until she was almost 19. For years, she and her childhood friends enjoyed an elaborate treehouse built by a carpenter until it was finally struck by lightning and destroyed. “I figured maybe God was trying to tell me something,” says Catherine.

She didn’t wait for lightning to strike twice, Catherine left the treehouse and headed for a career in show business. A singer and a dancer, Catherine was hired to sing and act in a musical-comedy pilot called “The Hee Haw Honeys,” within a week after arriving in Hollywood.

From there, she appeared on such series as Eight is Enough, Vega$, ChiPs and the TV movies “The Seeding of Sarah Burns” and “To Race the Wind.”

Hickland also worked in two soaps, Texas and General Hospital, before landing the featured role on Capitol, portraying the young wife of a senatorial candidate.

Outside of the TV business, Catherine Hickland’s face appears in many magazines in beauty ads. She resides with her husband, Knight Rider’s David Hasselhoff, on a hilltop overlooking California’s San Fernando Valley. A big step up from a treehouse.
